The Hamptons has always been more than just a getaway to me. I remember spending days in the sun and nights in our old, beachy farmhouse as a child; learning to surf at age 8 in Montauk; getting all our produce at local farmsteads, then feasting with family as the sun went down.
Later, I’d realize that there was way more to that old beachy farmhouse. One of the first houses in Sagaponack, it was originally owned by the famous author John Irving, who even wrote about it in one of his books, The Door In The Floor. This is just one of many ways the Hamptons is far more complex than its reputation allows for. It’s a place for family, memories, and history — both past and in the making.
People get the wrong impression of the Hamptons, but it really is one of the most beautiful and special places to me — a nostalgic side of the Hamptons I want everyone who visits to experience. The smell of summer, suntan lotion, and the ocean breeze still brings me back, and you know what? The local gems do too! Here are some of my favorite places to visit and make memories out east.
One of about 100 delicious farm stands out east, Bhumi Farms is easily the most beautiful. Run by the incomparable Farmer Frank, who grew up in New York City before resettling for a quieter life, Bhumi’s produce is certified organic. Instead of using harmful pesticides and chemicals, his farm uses essential oils as well as natural minerals to combat pests and replenish soil, healthy elements that are passed onto the consumer.
I love Bhumi’s simple but elegant yellow and white facade. It’s the perfect backdrop for a photoshoot, a family outing, or any trip to the Hamptons.
