The Hamptons has always been more than just a getaway to me. I remember spending days in the sun and nights in our old, beachy farmhouse as a child; learning to surf at age 8 in Montauk; getting all our produce at local farmsteads, then feasting with family as the sun went down.

Later, I’d realize that there was way more to that old beachy farmhouse. One of the first houses in Sagaponack, it was originally owned by the famous author John Irving, who even wrote about it in one of his books, The Door In The Floor. This is just one of many ways the Hamptons is far more complex than its reputation allows for. It’s a place for family, memories, and history — both past and in the making.

People get the wrong impression of the Hamptons, but it really is one of the most beautiful and special places to me — a nostalgic side of the Hamptons I want everyone who visits to experience. The smell of summer, suntan lotion, and the ocean breeze still brings me back, and you know what? The local gems do too! Over the next few days I will be posting some of my favorite places to visit and make memories out east.

The first is The Surf Loge!

Nothing, absolutely nothing, beats the sunset view from The Surf Lodge! True, the scene has changed over the years (it’s a little clubby for my taste, depending on the day), but there’s a lot to love about this Montauk hotspot’s beachy ambience.

At the Surf Lodge, there are concerts every weekend, along with other fun events like artist residencies, fitness classes, and the finest dining east of the city.

And... Don't forget to hit up their boutique The Surf Bazaar! It's by far one of the best curated shops on the east end!!
