Mental Health Mondays

Mental Health Mondays

Why do I choose to speak openly about mental health on my blog? Where did this stem from? And what’s my relationship with mental health? I’ve been receiving these questions a lot lately and the truth is that I am in no way an expert on mental health, but I feel as an influencer it’s my social responsibility to promote an open discussion around the topic we so often like to advert.

I love fashion and beauty but there is so much more that goes behind a photo I post that I want to express. I truly believe there’s nothing more powerful than the mind, and I want to use my voice to make sure others don’t feel so alone with their thoughts. I want people to know that at the end of the day there’s something we’re all struggling with (especially when photos don’t often show this “darker” side of things).

Let’s face it, we live in a digital age. And social media has continuously been proven to have negative side effects on our mental health. But knowing that, I think we can change the way we use and perceive social media. I believe that now more than ever we should open up about our own struggles with mental health, and not shy away from the truths we all face when it comes to how we feel.

No filters, just honesty - that’s the idea behind what my brand was founded on and it’s something I strive to continue doing throughout my entire career. In fact, every Monday I aim to post about mental health, so if there are any specific topics you’d like me to focus on, please let me know. Like so many others, I’ve had my fair share of mental health issues and I want to focus on steps we can take to lead healthier, happier lives.

From therapy, to diets and meditation, I think it’s important influencers of this digital age go above and beyond to share ways we deal with mental health issues. Throughout most of my life, I have struggled with anxiety and it’s something I deal with on a daily basis, especially when my schedule gets crazy. A few ways I deal with anxiety, which sometimes leads into a bit of OCD, is through eating healthy, going to therapy, and going to an infrared sauna once each week.

It’s important to note that works for my mental health may not work for yours, but as long as we can have open, honest discussions about mental health, we can stop the stigma behind it. We can leverage our love for social media into a positive outcome of the digital age, where minds (old and young) come together to discuss mental health issues so nobody feels alone.

Remember, it’s okay to not be okay. I hope you will support me with my decision to promote mental health each Monday and (if you’re feeling up to it) even share your own experience with mental health. Because why not use each other to lean on every once in a while?
